Don’t Buy Into Dogma

My son was eight when he announced to me he wasn’t going to just take on the views of his parents… or his teachers… or his culture(s).

He declared he wasn’t going to buy into any dogma at all.

He announced from early on that he would only ever think for himself. And that didn’t equal being a rebellious thinker or taking up residency in an “oppositional” stance.

Quite the contrary, my son is a natural learner and researcher. He’d dive into topics like politics and economics and international relations and the “isms”… and he’d DISCOVER.

There is so much information out there, but you have to chew on it. You have to digest it. You have to think about it! You have to analyze it. You have to synthesize it.

You have to proactively “not fall for it.”
You have to deliberately “not buy into it.”

You have to protect yourself from being misled.
You have to be vigilant…
Or you will be dunked, locked, in a web of lies and spin…
All while having no idea of it.

From the earliest age, my son understood all this, instinctively.

He would get curious and explore the info.
Invested in positive change, always.
Invested in what is fair, true, and right, always.

Invested in finding out what avenues would genuinely lead to a better world.

I have always been wired in much the same way. Wired to question… to be deeply curious. To doubt the party-line. To see through and beyond.

And my son taught me to be even more curious. More open-minded. More questioning.

With this, a ton of additional input swept into me… as if a light had turned on. A light I’d never realized was not on.

Learning is a lost art form…
In which we discover, experiment, and develop critical thinking skills.

Learning is a lost art form…
In which we come into an ever deeper knowledge of ourselves… while alchemizing input that comes from outside of us.

As we learn…
Never should we swallow without chewing.

Never should we over-eagerly “throw down the hatch” the information that’s coming into our field.

We should be wary, suspicious, and skeptical.

We should wonder if there’s a hidden agenda behind what we’re being taught and told.

No matter the source of that so-called information.

Love + Oneness,
Naomi
