It’s Time To Shed Our Shame

On letting go of our shame…
On laying down our guilt…
On letting ourselves out of the doghouse…
that we scarcely even realize we have ourselves in.

On forgiving ourselves once and for all.
Forgiving our trespasses, sins, omissions, flaws, foibles, failures, and miscalculations.

On granting ourselves a clean slate and a new beginning…

Having learned the lessons.
Having gotten the memo.
Having made the course-corrections that were being asked of us.

So now we rise.
Now we resurrect.
We exit our coffin, no more lying in the grave we inadvertently dug.
Now we are the Phoenix, dusting ourselves off, soaring into flight.

Now our wings are strong.
Now they’re tried and tested.
Now we are equipped.
Now we are ready.

Having been made ready throughout the trial by fire.
Having been prepared via the forging in the flames.

Having been pressure-cooked so thoroughly we’ve transmuted from coal to diamond.
From lead to gold.
Having been so slammed, jammed, and jangled in life’s rock tumbler, we are by now polished to a gleam.

Putting down our shame can’t be a prideful undertaking.
It’s not a vainglorious flexing of our muscles.
It’s not a bragadocious swelling of the self, as if we have something to prove.

It’s not a compensatory thing.
It’s not a performative thing.
It’s not an egotistical thing.

Setting down our shame can’t be an override of our authentic feeling state.
It can’t be a tamping down, a killing off, or a repression.
For what’s repressed will return full-force.

It must be a process…
An alchemy process.
A switching of the rails.
A shifting of the paradigm we reside within as a default.

A bonafide and thorough transformational process…
From one state to another.

Setting down our brutal judgments of ourselves…
Getting the volume turned down on our harsh inner critic…
All this must be an affair of the heart and soul.
Not merely of the mind.
Not merely of concepts, notions, and fine ideas about things.

The transmutation of the self has to be genuine.
It has to be embodied and inhabited.
A legitimate having of mercy on the self.
A full-blown letting ourselves off the hook.
A freeing of ourselves…
From ANY prison of our own making.
