We Are All Holy Fools
Today, April Fool’s Day, let us embrace our shared status as the HOLY FOOL.
THE FOOL is the very first card in the Tarot deck, and it’s numbered “ZERO” instead of “one” because it’s thee default setting for every one of us.
Every other life-theme we confront arises out of our set-point as “holy fools,” finding our way, bumbling, fumbling, stumbling—and sometimes soaring—as we blaze a one-of-a-kind trail.
THE FOOL card bears four key reminders:
1. HAVE A SENSE OF HUMOR!
No matter what. Even and especially in tough times … try to indulge yourself in a gut bucket laugh about the absurdity of life, the *folly* of it, the ridiculousness of it, the entertainment value of it. Laugh heartily AT the *folly* of yourself, while you’re at it!!
2. LIFE IS A GRAND ADVENTURE.
Hence, you have intrinsic permission to color outside the lines… with colors you wouldn’t normally pick! Live a little! And embrace that we’re all fabulous, phenomenal, and utterly fantastic in our own unique way… AND, yes, even with that accounted for, we’re still all “fools.”
3. WE ALL HAVE OUR OWN UNIQUE PATH OF UNFOLDING.
We are all on a one-of-a-kind solo journey. There has never been anyone like us. “Being who we are” is a sacred assignment. We are therefore wise to heed our inner directives, not “follow the rules.” Let us follow the beat of our own inner drummer, all the while transcending concerns about what others might think.
4. BE CURIOUS! QUESTING! OPEN-HEARTED! OPEN-MINDED!
Let’s honor THE FOOL in ourselves and in others. Let’s lighten up and be a little more forbearing and bemused… as we observe the “holy fool” on display in the people in our life.
Let’s have a chuckle and a chortle and a giggle and a guffaw… allowing for at least some small measure tomfoolery, mischief, and messiness… AND showing up in a spirit of forgiveness for our own—and other people’s—instances of literal foolishness.
Indeed, if ever someone calls you a fool, grin broadly and say a sweet, sincere, “thank you for the compliment.”
Love + Oneness,
Naomi
