Refuse the Pervasive Lies

My son was not pleased upon finding out that Santa Claus was make-believe.

It was the lie that he hated. Though only six, he was alarmed that our very *society* was so deeply rooted in dishonesty.

This is not a post about whether or not we should scrap the Santa myth. It’s about the prevalence of lies, at the socio-cultural level.

From this young age onward, my son saw through the Matrix. He couldn’t unsee the pervasive deception and spin.

He showed it to me. He opened my eyes. He resolutely kept his eyes peeled for lies lurking in his midst… including and especially political and socio-cultural ones.

My son’s eyes were on truth… which made lies stand out to him. And he was determined to NOT fall for deception.

Our culture’s cherished institutions aren’t exactly operating in integrity or honor. (Aka, government, media, big pharma, corporations, “science” etc.)

And the saying is true…
it’s easier to fool a person than to convince them they’ve been fooled.

It’s worth keeping an eye out for the ways WE are being fooled!!

It’s tempting to look over THERE… at THEM…

“Look at how readily THEY’VE been fooled!!”
We say it to ourselves smugly.
Our eyes wide shut to the ways WE OURSELVES have been fooled, by “trusted” institutions.

Many can hardly bear the humiliation of realizing they’ve been duped.

In many cases, we’d rather maintain our delusion, than face the shock and indignity of having been deceived, misled, and betrayed.

Add to that, “disclosure” of the lie messes with our identity structure… our sense of who we are.

And many of us are highly averse to having our sense of ourselves tampered with. Even if it is the TRUTH that’s come knocking.

My son was young enough, and wise enough, to be brutally honest with me, in the face of my having lied to him about Santa.

I apply to my son the phrase, “younger and wiser.” He proves to me that this is “a thing” over and over again. His insightfulness opens my eyes to soooo much.

My son refused to just roll with the Santa lie.
He refused to shrug it off as a widespread cultural norm.

Instead, he reminded me of what I already knew in my heart:

The TRUTH is mighty.
It sets us free.

Love + Oneness,
Naomi
